Energy & Atmosphere

Envelope

The key component to the Unity Collection™ is the thermal envelope, which is designed to achieve Net-Zero energy status. Overall R-value for Unity House walls comes to R-40, the roof has a value of R-67 and beyond, and the slab is rated at R-20. Blower door tests indicate a result of 1.25 air changes/ hour (ACH) @ 50 Pascals. This results in the equivalent natural infiltration of .065 ACH on a normal day. The Unity Collection™ achieves these excellent numbers through the use of advanced gaskets, sealing, and wall closures.

Indoor Environmental Quality

The Unity Collection™ is specifically designed to connect its occupants to the outdoors. Large glass doors allow for ample solar gain in the winter and provide a simulated screened porch effect in the summer: one that encourages passive ventilation. Movable walls can separate the main living area from private areas, resulting in dynamic spaces that feel both cozy and spacious.

Because the house is so well sealed, a heat recovery ventilator brings in a continuous stream of fresh air to the occupants. Interior finishes comply with the highest green standards as defined by LEED. Paints used are low VOC; wall paneling contains no added urea-formaldehyde and clear finishes are a bio-based oil that is applied off-site.
