Open-Built® — Ceilings

ceiling systemBensonwood added ceiling panels in 2003, completing our floor system. In fact, they are the "finish" of the floor system. The ceiling panels rest on top of the joists. They are approximately 3 ft. by 4 ft. and are made of shiplap boards connected together on the back with steel stiffeners. The shiplap joint connects panel to panel, as well. The boards of the ceiling panels accent the timberframe joists and are an elegant and natural solution to finishing the ceiling. Once installed, the ceiling has the look of traditional tongue and groove flooring. (See photo.) Your local builder will install the panels after electricians, plumbers, and HVAC technicians have finished their work.

Above the ceiling panels is an 8 in. open space for electrical, plumbing, and heating systems. Our design gives the homeowner easy access to the systems. Simply push up on the panels and you have a full view of the space above the ceiling.

Our ceiling system is available in several finish choices. You may choose from board finishes in fir, cypress, cedar or pine. If you prefer a painted ceiling, we can also supply MDF (medium density fiberboard) panels as a paint-grade finish.
