Bensonwood Homes Underwrites This Old House on WGBH

Innovative builder expands on long relationship with program

Walpole, NH. Bensonwood Homes, builder of some of the most innovative timberframe and hybrid homes in New England and around the country, proudly announces that it will sponsor the presentation of This Old House on WGBH Boston for 2007. The show airs in the greater Boston area and southern New Hampshire Saturdays at 5pm on Channel 2 as well as Sundays at 6pm and Thursdays at 8pm on Channel 44.

"Our relationship with This Old House goes back to 1989," said Tedd Benson, company steward of Bensonwood homes. "They had planned to convert an 1835 timberframe barn into a house, but the existing frame was too rotten to salvage," he explained. "So we built a new frame and showed viewers the basics of timberframe joinery, information about structural insulated panels and how to do an old-fashioned frame raising. We're delighted to help ensure that This Old House can continue its mission of giving valuable, up-to-date information to those interested in preserving their homes."

Since then, the experts at Bensonwood have worked with This Old House on other projects, and the show's master carpenter, Norm Abrams, commissioned Bensonwood to design and build a timberframe structure for his own home.

This Old House's mission to educate homeowners about new and innovative ways to restore houses, plan additions and create wonderful places in which to live makes underwriting the program an ideal match for Bensonwood, known for its exclusive Open-Built® design and building system. Open-Built® is a new approach to the process and product of homebuilding. As the first digitally-based design and building system, it lets clients collaborate more completely in the design process. Among other things, Open-Built® improves design efficiency, reduces waste and improves essential qualities-all of which reduce costs and allow more people to afford custom-designed homes to fit their lifestyle.

Bensonwood's work with MIT and open building helped them earn the Innovative Small Builder of the Year award for 2006 from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development's Partnership for Advancing Technology in Housing. For more information, visit bensonwood.com.
